Thor/Mjollnir story

Post-Modern Deconstruction of the Myth of Thor and the Theft of Mjollnir

Breakdown of Story

• Thor finds Mjollnir missing (in some stories Loki gambled it away)
• Ransom for Mjollnir is Freyja marrying the giant (Thrym) who has Mjollnir
• Freyja is approached to marry Thrym by Loki and Thor; she refuses
• Council of Gods - Heimdall suggests Thor dress up as Freyja to win back Mjollnir
• Thor dressed in bride's clothes, swaddled in a huge bridal veil, has keys on a belt at "her" waist, decked out in the finest red-gold jewelry
• Loki accompanies Thor as "handmaid"
• While Thor eats all the food, Loki explains Thor's gluttony by saying that "Freyja" hadn't eaten or drunk anything before the wedding
• When Thrym tries to kiss the "bride," he sees Thor's glaring eyes; Loki explains that "Freyja" had not slept before the wedding
• Thrym's sister asks for the red-gold jewelry to "win her love"
• Mjollnir brought in from its hiding place to hallow the "bride" and start eht wedding
• Thor grasps Mjollnir, rips off wedding clothes, and kills wedding party
